Calfskin is cut to the overall size of each panel on the book. The wood texture is drawn in on each piece with waterproof india ink.
The onlays are then painted with a custom-mixed leather dye and left to dry.
The onlays are meticulously pared to paper-thin pieces, and applied to the binding with PVA adhesive.
Each panel, which has been cut into three pieces, must be separately applied and smoothed with a bone folder and burnisher.
The original cover has been converted into the front boardpaper of the book, while a handmade conservation paper is used for the endsheets.
Finally, a custom title-skiver is cut from red leather, stamped in gold in the hot press, and applied to the spine.
