Florian Bieschke opened the Atelier Bindery in autumn of 2011 to promote and preserve the craft of hand bookbinding and restoration. With over two decades of teaching experience in the visual and book arts at the undergraduate level, Florian brings a unique and diverse skill set to this “teaching bindery”. After earning his M.A. in Studio Art, Florian served a three year apprenticeship at Studio 22 Graphic Studio and Gallery in Chicago, IL and went on to teach typography, printmaking, graphic design, painting, and traditional English bookbinding at a variety of institutions, including Indiana University, Indiana State College, Purdue North Central University, The South Bend Art Center and The Indianapolis Art League Museum. For seven years, Florian owned and operated the Binder’s Press, located in South Bend, IN; Atelier is a revitalization of that bindery, with education its primary goal.
For the past decade, Florian has lived and worked in the picturesque Minocqua/Woodruff area of Wisconsin.
